CHARTING NEW SKIES
The Irene V. Hylton Planetarium has always stood as an emblem of space exploration and learning in Prince William County, Virginia. Recognizing the ever-evolving nature of space science and the growing interest in celestial wonders, we undertook a significant renovation. Our primary aim: to modernize the planetarium experience and to capture the imagination of both our dedicated visitors and the new generation of stargazers.
Projectors
Advanced Projection System: The heart of our planetarium, the projection system, received a significant upgrade. We’ve introduced the Konica Minolta 4K Sigma System, a 4K high-definition digital projector. With it, we can render the beauty of the universe in breathtaking detail, making every visit an unforgettable journey. We currently have two previously used projectors on display just inside the lobby.
SkyLase Laser System & Enhanced Special Effects: To augment the viewing experience, we added the SkyLase Laser System. In tandem with an assortment of newly integrated special effects, the laser shows are nothing short of mesmerizing. These aren’t just passive viewings; they’re immersive celestial adventures.
The Dome
Astro-Tec Seamless Dome: Our dome is the canvas upon which we paint the wonders of the universe. We upgraded to the Astro-Tec Seamless Dome, ensuring a perfectly continuous projection surface, enhancing clarity and immersion.
Welcoming a New Audience
With our renovations, we also aim to attract and enlighten a new audience. The Hylton Planetarium isn’t just for seasoned space enthusiasts. It’s for the curious student, the imaginative child, and anyone who looks up at the night sky with wonder. Our modernized features and enhanced programs are designed to cater to varying interests, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
A new Look
Comfort Meets Design: We’ve overhauled the interiors to match the quality of our shows. New, plush seating ensures comfort, while the refreshed carpeting and design elements echo the themes of space and exploration.
Our renovations were more than just aesthetic and technological upgrades. They signify our commitment to the community – to provide a venue where space science is accessible, enjoyable, and continually innovative. We believe that the wonders of the universe should be available to everyone, no matter their age or background.
