HISTORY

The Irene V. Hylton Planetarium has a rich history intricately linked with C.D. Hylton High School in Prince William County. Founded by real estate developer Cecil D. Hylton, the planetarium stands on land donated by Hylton himself, serving as a testament to his community-development and philanthropic legacy. Renamed in honor of his wife, Irene, the planetarium was established not just as a structure but as a visionary gateway to astronomical exploration. Over the years, under the leadership of our planetarium directors, it has fulfilled its mission of inspiring and educating the community through celestial displays, educational programs, and public engagements. The Irene V. Hylton Planetarium remains a symbol of the enduring commitment to education, community, and the limitless wonders of the universe.
