Tony Kilgore

Anthony “Tony” Kilgore, a dedicated advocate for space science and education, serves as the Planetarium Director at Irene V. Hylton Planetarium in Prince William County in Virginia. With a knack for blending educational rigor with a touch of fun and silliness, Tony has been instrumental in modernizing and revitalizing planetariums for the current generation of star-gazers.

Hailing from Boardman High School where he pursued a College Preparatory track, Tony furthered his academic journey at Youngstown State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with a specialization in Earth & Space Sciences.

An Educator

His unyielding thirst for knowledge propelled him to achieve a Master of Education in Secondary Science Curriculum from Virginia Tech, a Certificate in Educational Leadership and Administration from James Madison University, and Graduate Course Work in Education from Colorado State University.

Tony’s journey in the realm of education began as a Science Teacher at Osbourn High School in Manassas City and then moved to Battlefield High School. He soon found his true calling in 2008 when he took the mantle of the Planetarium Director at Irene V. Hylton Planetarium, a position he holds dearly to this day.

A Volunteer

An article from Potomac Local further attests to his influence in the field, announcing his upcoming presidency for the Middle Atlantic Planetarium Society (link MAPS website).

Apart from the stars, Tony is also passionate about sports. He has been linked with coaching responsibilities for the C.D. Hylton High School’s lacrosse and golf teams, showcasing his multifaceted talents and commitment to student growth outside the classroom.
